Dr. Jesse Ofori, PsyD

My passion lies in offering compassionate and gold-standard therapies, working from the philosophy that we are all doing our best to survive at any given time. I understand that we have often developed strategies that helped us cope with adversities in the past, but have come to keep us stuck in distress. I help people to understand their triggers, stuck patterns, and learn strategies (including the science behind them) that will help them move towards new, empowered, ways forward.

Psychological interventions across aspects of adult mental health and wellbeing, including:

  • Traumas, including PTSD and complex PTSD

  • Generalised anxiety

  • Social anxiety

  • Health anxiety

  • Panic

  • Agoraphobia

  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

  • Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)

  • Specific phobias (such as flying, animals, driving etc.)

  • Low and unstable mood, and depression

  • Self-esteem difficulties

  • And many more...

Gold-standard, evidence-based interventions, including:

  • Cognitive and Behavioural Approaches

There are a wide-range of CBT therapies. Most involve identifying patterns of beliefs (cognitions) and coping strategies (behaviours) that may be keeping problems stuck, and supporting families to experiment with new ways. Tends to be somewhat focussed on practical strategies in the 'here and now', though can benefit from looking at the past, and relationships too.

  • Trauma-Focussed Therapies

Building a foundation of safety and stabilisation, and systematically reprocessing the memories using Cognitive Therapy for PTSD (CT-PTSD) and Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Depending on the situation and personal preference, this may or may not involve talking in depth about the traumatic event/s.

  • Compassion-Focussed Therapy

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) is designed to help you develop self-compassion and kindness, especially if you're prone to self-criticism. It combines ideas from evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, and mindfulness to help you understand your emotions, reduce shame, and build inner strength, fostering a more caring and understanding relationship with yourself.

  • Cognitive Analytic Approaches

Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is a short-term therapy that blends ideas from cognitive and psychodynamic approaches. It helps you understand how past experiences shape current behaviors and relationships. Together we will explore patterns (often using visual mapping and written summaries), identify unhelpful cycles, and work on developing healthier ways of thinking and interacting.

  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), used for depression and other difficulties focuses on how your relationships and life events impact your mood. It's a short-term therapy that helps you explore and improve your relationships, communication, and social support. By addressing issues like conflicts, life changes, or loss, IPT aims to lift your depression and enhance your well-being.

  • Systemic Family Therapies

Systemic Family Therapy views problems within the context of family relationships rather than just focusing on individuals. It helps families understand how their interactions affect each other, and it works to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen bonds. The goal is to create healthier patterns that benefit everyone in the family.
